Jung: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions) [Abridged, Audiobook, Classical] [Audio CD]

Jung: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions) [Abridged, Audiobook, Classical] [Audio CD]

Product Description

Anthony Stevens argues that Jung's visionary powers and profound spirituality have helped many to find an alternative set of values to the arid materialism prevailing in Western society. This concise introduction explains clearly the basic concepts of Jungian psychology: the collective unconscious; complex; archetype; shadow; persona; anima; animus; and the individuation of the Self. Anthony Stevens examines Jung's views on such disparate subjects as myth, religion, alchemy, synchronicity and the psychology of gender differences. He devotes separate chapters to the stages of life, Jung's theory of psychological types, the interpretation of dreams and the practice of Jungian analysis. Jung's individual theories remain among the most fascinating of 20th century psychologists. The introduction should prove popular among a wide range of listeners - outside of the psychological fraternity.

Costumer Evaluations

Anthony Stevens' Very Brief Introduction is a ought to for everyone who is interested in the life and function of Carl G. Jung and psychoanalysis and psychodynamic theory in common. With this tiny book, Stevens offers with the most uncomplicated elements of Jungs insights (such as the collective unconscious, archetypes, complexes...) as nicely as explaining the significantly more tough sides, such as alchemy, eastern philosophy, and the substantially overlooked relationship between Jungs psychology and the suggestions of some new disciplines like Evolutionary Psychology and Lorenz' Ethology. A large thumbs up for Stevens: Jung was indeed a brilliant thinker, but far from an great writer...

With so a great number of "introduction" books flooding the marketplace these days it can be tough to know exactly where the top location is to even get started when interested in difficult topic. In my experience it has been the Especially Short Introduction series that delivers the most helpful presentation of important suggestions to particular thinkers. The modesty of these books (unwilling to claim that they are going to introduce you to anything much more than an absolute standard) is not to be misunderstood, this series is far significantly more successful than Icons more common Introducing... series, there are no cartoons here and it really is written in a conventional chapter, sub-section style of an academic text book. The books though are so readable and clear, there is a completely unpretentious top quality to them and clear examples and elaborations of essential ideas. I read the Introducing Jung sometime ago and it sparked an interest, I even bought some of his books but nevertheless I discovered them troublesome to grasp, this book however left a a lot clearer imprint of Jungian concepts and I can now tackle some of his original works. The series only drawback is it lacks some subjects obtainable in icons range, I would dearly love to see a Particularly Brief Introduciton to Lacan, or Levi-Strauss, hopefully in yhe near future. I complete heartedly recommend these books, you find out way more as the 150 so pages are quite considerably text instead of drawings and text bubbles and however the readability implies though they take far more time to just read by way of (most say they read an Introducing book in an hour, it may well take you two or 3 to read these) you actually grasp the tips extra quickly.
